We do not allow any visitors to our homes. This policy is for the health and well-being of our Dogs & our Children. There are those who warn that, if a breeder will not allow you into their facility, they must be "hiding something." This warning would NOT be given if those who advocate such visits
actually raised dogs!
We have had to adopt this policy as a result of our experience as breeders and having raised a number of dogs. Our dogs are raised like family. They live with us, and our puppies are born in our home. They are socialized and loved and cared for to assure you of a puppy that is sound in mind and body. Having strangers in our facility could introduce disease, compromise puppies that are not old enough to reach immuno-competency (the age where a puppy can start to produce antibodies on its own) and upset our moms daily routine, and endanger to welfare of our children and us. Dogs thrive on routine and our activities are built around their care and well being. We will be happy to Text, Call, Message even Facetime , ETC and spend all the time necessary to answer every one of your questions. Our animals' health is our primary concern and we do all we can to give them the best quality care we can provide.
Beware of puppy scams out there
Tips on what to look for when determining if you have contacted or have been contacted by a scam artist concerning puppies.
A scammer claiming to be selling a puppy will often be using a picture which they have stole from a puppy sales website or someone's personal website such as this one. They do this by right clicking over the picture and clicking "save as" and save it to their computer. They then go to classified websites such as puppy find.com, kijiji.com or others and post that stolen picture as though they own that puppy and are trying to sell it. They of course do not have a puppy to sell and only want to take your money and you will never get a puppy in exchange for your money. The scammer will often have the puppy priced very low in order to make it more appealing. Here is a numbered list on things to look for if you come across something you think is suspicious.
Weather you buy a puppy from me or not, I encourage you to use these tips in finding your new puppy. This information is to help you not get scammed. I am happy to help you identify a scammer if you are unsure. First and foremost CALL a HUMAN don't just Text Talk, DO your Research. Stop whining when you get scammed becuase you did not research first and then expect the real breeder to somehow discount their real pup or feel bad for you . When you Did NOT do your research :)
- The scammers usually are not from USA, so their English is broken or they claim a disability is why they can't speak with you on the phone.
- The scammers puppy is usually free but only requires the cost of shipping, usually it is around $200-$300 but could be more or less.
- Just like our parents said "If it sounds to good to be true its Because it is!"
- They claim the puppy can be delivered to your doorstep in 3 days or less. The problem with that is that most people selling puppies over the Internet are required to be picked up at the airport with PHOTO ID of the person who is claiming the puppy. The airlines DO NOT deliver to your door step. Also, with quarantine laws it would usually be impossible to ship a puppy to your door step in 2-3 days. Not to mention Pugs cant travel by air and drivers don't go to your door very often either
- A GOOD WAY TO KNOW IF HE IS A SCAMMER OR NOT IS TO ASK FOR A PICTURE OF THE PUPPY WITH A PIECE OF PAPER WITH YOUR NAME ON IT IN THE SAME PICTURE. WHY DOES THIS WORK? IF THE PICTURE IS STOLEN AND THE PERSON DOES NOT HAVE THE PUPPY, IT WOULD BE IMPOSSIBLE FOR HIM TO PRODUCE THIS FORMAT OF PICTURE.
- ANY BREEDER WILL BE GLAD TO PROVIDE YOU WITH SUCH A PICTURE. IF THE PERSON GIVES YOU ANY EXCUSE AS TO WHY THEY CANNOT PROVIDE ONE PLEASE, MOVE ON AND FORGET IT. COMMON EXCUSES ARE THAT THEIR CAMERA IS BROKE OR THE PERSON WITH THE PUPPY DOES NOT HAVE ACCESS TO A CAMERA OR COMPUTER BUT WHAT EVER THE EXCUSE, DON'T BUY IT, YOU WILL REGRET IT.
- The scammer will often require you to send the money via Western Union. Western Unions in their own right can be fine. But if Western Union is the ONLY option that is a red flag. Cash App and Venmo are common ways to scam now because you cant make a claim to get your money back. Also when they ask you to send Friends & Family oin Paypal Beware you cant file a claim there as well.
- Don't forget Breeders get scammed as well, so Take the time to talk to them and see their views as well , when asking for their personal info . They very well may not have Paypal since many use that to scam breeders as well each breeder is different
- The scammer will only want contacted by e-mail or text and will not provide a phone number. If they do provide a phone number, it usually does not work or belongs to someone they picked out of the phone book. Scammers have been known to be reachable by phone. If that is the case, use the other tips above to help determine if it is a scammer.
- If the person claims the puppy is AKC registered, don't be afraid to ask for the registration litter number. Call AKC and they will be happy to verify the dog exists.
AKC's Phone #: (212) 696-8225. - Most of all Ask questions, Don't ask a breeder for 100 pictures that wont let you know if they are a scammer just that you are wasting their time. Ask them Legit questions liks May i call your vet? to make sure you have these pups? or Is my Deposit Refundable if something happens to my pup?
- May your puppy buying experience be a great one with doing you due diligence !
Puppy mills, must read
This article was borrowed by another poster: USDA does NOT = Puppy Mill this is ASPCA & HSUS Propaganda USDA Licensed means We can Legally ship/deliver your puppy and I can legally breed exotic animals (Hedgehogs)
There is no such thing as a "puppy mill." "Puppy Mill" is not a legally defined term, it is a slang used by the animal rights community to denigrate any and all breeders--small or large, standard or substandard.
The phrase "puppy mill" has been promoted in the media by the animal "rights" movement, people who want to end all animal ownership. It is applied indiscriminately by these fanatics to anyone who breeds dogs. CEO of HSUS just stated: "A puppy mill is any breeder who takes any type of compensation for a pet."
So yes that would include Rescues!
Money exchanges hands so....
There are many types of breeders: Commercial, Pet, Hobby and show breeders to mention a few. Every one of these can be a large-scale breeder, every one of these can be a substandard breeder, Commercial, Hobby, and Show kennels can be subject to state and/or federal oversight. Substandard care can be found with all types of breeders even Shelters and Rescues. It is about the
standard of care that dogs receive.
Most Licensed breeders have state of the art kennels that meet USDA standards and the standards of the state. We are inspected at least twice a year, once by state and many times by USDA here in Kansas. You must meet or exceed standards of each. Passing laws intended to outlaw "puppy mills" will not solve any problem. Most breeders are already working to follow the laws. The only way to have any effect is to enforce the laws that are already on the books.
All the Hobby breeders in this country cannot produce enough puppies to meet the demands of the American market. BREEDERS are NOT responsible for the presence of dogs in shelters. Irresponsible dog & cat owners are the reason that there are too many pets in shelters.
Believe me, I am not saying there are not bad breeders. I know there is, but we just need to get them cleaned up! Not all of us are bad breeders!
There are some breeders who breed a tad under the AKC standard, but within a weight range that will still produce healthy dogs. In this case, these Chihuahuas "Teacups" ,Pugs called "Pocket Pugs". These are not terms recognized by any group, they can just be common terms that you have heard or seen. While these dogs may not fit AKC/APRI/ACA conformation, when bred ethically, as we
DO, they will be as healthy as a standard size. Any pet that is breed to be smaller than standard size for its breed parents still should be health tested and sound before ever breeding. We
DO NOT promote breeding runts or super tinys just for profit.
Even a wonderful breeder who breeds to stay within the AKC standards, will always have a few puppies every so often who are Smaller or Larger than expected. Even with careful breeding, God has the final say. In these cases, a breeder may refer to those smaller than planned dogs as "Imperials" "Teacups" or "Pocket Pet", or will chart the growth and state that they may be larger by saying above standard or husky.
